Lobbying Competition: call for projects, 2017 edition

The Lobbying Competition, organized by Spin Partners, enables companies and organizations to submit real lobbying issues to Master’s students.

2017, a pivotal year for lobbying

Election year, 2017 promises to test the vitality of the democratic debate in France. In this matter, lobbying contributes to the emergence of great society topics and in the development of consensus. However, the vision of this activity remains still too often centered on the economic actors alone. The lobbying coming from civil society is consequently ignored during the current parliamentary discussions on the Sapin II draft law.
In comparison, the European Union considers just as well business and NGO representatives as lobbyists. It is therefore offering « a calmer and more constructive approach to lobbying », says Damien Abad, deputy of Ain and sponsor of the 2016 edition of the Lobbying Competition.

Since 2001, the Lobbying Competition has promoted this inclusive definition of lobbying, encompassing the practices of economic (firms, federations…) and societal (associations, NGO, unions…) actors. The Lobbying Competition contributes in this way to reinforce the visibility of an ethical lobbying between public authorities and all the different interest groups. As such, it constitutes an opportunity for its partners to communicate about their best practice and to raise awareness about the practice of this activity among the young generation.

Five Master’s – One committee of experts – One award ceremony

In practice, five Master’s (Institute for Political Studies, Universities, Business Schools) are brought to face real partner organizations’ issues during three months (from January to April). Their project analysis and proposals are then evaluated by a committee of experts (in May).

Finally, an award ceremony is held in early July to reward the best students and let the partners speak about the project. Parliamentarians, lobbying experts and journalists will attend the ceremony.
